Administrative Team Message
Dear Students and Parents:
As you begin to schedule, selecting classes is one of first steps in your journey down the pathway. While some classes are mandated and required towards graduation, others are electives and enrollment is voluntary. Regardless of whether required or elective, we encourage you to read this material carefully and select those classes or level of classes that will both challenge and prepare you.
Our goals for you are both simple and lofty: to prepare you after high school for employment, entry into the Armed Forces, or continue with post-secondary education. Regardless of the path you choose, we want you to be prepared for the opportunities you may cross. If employment is your immediate plan, we want you to have skills and attitudes that will give you a competitive advantage that makes you more employable. If your path leads to additional post-secondary education, we want you to be prepared for higher level learning.
The graduation requirements at Jersey Shore Area Senior High School is 27.0 credits. We encourage students to complete 7.0 credits per year to stay on pace with graduation. The Career Learning Pathway documents identifies the courses that you may select and/or be taking in that career focused area. This is your opportunity to challenge and prepare yourself for your life plan.

Message from the Counselors
You are making choices and decisions about your future. The consequences of these decisions can be long-lasting and should not be taken lightly. It is important to make appropriate decisions as early as possible.
Selecting courses is an important matter. Using guidance from others – parents, friends, teachers and counselors – can be helpful, but remember that the decisions that are right for someone else may not be appropriate for you. Be responsible for yourself. Make choices based on your future goals and needs. Your high school program should be planned with your post-high school objectives in mind; employment, advanced training, the military, education and/or use of leisure time.
Five important facts to consider:
- Your high school academic record reflected in your grades
- The quality of courses selected
- Results of achievement and standardized test
- Your activities in and out of school (The important point is not how many activities you have, but how well you carry out your responsibilities in the activities)
- Your attendance record (Your attendance demonstrates your level of commitment and predicts your employability)
Your counselor will schedule a conference to meet with you and discuss your course selections. It is important that you take time to review the course offerings before scheduling.
We hope our efforts in preparing this guide will assist you in making wise choices when selecting courses. Have an enjoyable and rewarding year.
