Important PSSA Update
4.21.2026

Hello,
This morning our attempt to begin PSSA testing did not go well.  The Jersey Shore Area School District did pilot online testing last year with some student groups.  We had minimal issues during that time.  This was the first year that all students in grades 3-8 were required to take PSSAs online.  What our staff and students experienced today was a massive disruption to our students’ and staff’s preparation for a test that holds major consequences.  The PA Department of Education released the following statement:

“We are aware of the issues with the online testing system and are actively working with DRC to resolve them. At this time, many users have been restored and are back online.

We sincerely apologize for the disruption and appreciate your patience as we continue to address this matter. We will share additional updates as more information becomes available.”

As Superintendent of schools, I am extremely frustrated that a test that is used to measure student performance, teacher performance and district performance was not met with more preparation outside of the district.  Due to the issues that we faced, Administration made the decision to suspend testing today in all elementary schools. I fully expect that many students will come home today frustrated because of what they experienced at school trying to take their PSSA Exam.  The district was fully prepared and ready to give them.  The system that we are required to use was not. We have been assured that it will be resolved before resuming testing tomorrow.

Thank you,

Dr. Ulmer
