Pre-K Counts

Jersey Shore Area School District offers Pre-K Counts Preschool for 3- and 4-year old Children

The Jersey Shore Area School District is offering a Pre-Kindergarten program. Click the following link to fill out the application: Pre-K Counts Application.  The application is now in Google Forms format.

This preschool program is funded through the Pennsylvania Department of Education Office of Child Development and Early Learning.  Children who participate in the Jersey Shore Area School District Pre-K Counts preschool program will be provided transportation to and from the program and receive snack and lunch at no cost to parents/guardians.  They will participate in 5 ½ hours of structured pre-school which will include pre-reading, writing, and math instruction plus music, movement, and art activities similar to the kindergarten programs currently operating in the school district.

Selection of students is based on:

  • Date of Birth: children must be 3 years old on or before September 1
  • Completion of application for enrollment
  • Children whose family income prohibits them from being able to enroll in preschool and are not in Head Start (economic guidelines are on the application)
  • Children who are English Language Learners
  • Children who may have a delay in readiness skills for kindergarten without a preschool experience.

Pre-K Counts preschool is a wonderful state grant initiative offered to help our youngest almost-school-age children prepare for full-day kindergarten.  The Pre-K Counts preschool program pays expenses for 20 children. Currently Pre-K Counts Classes are held in All Things Bright and Beautiful in Avis, PA, and Your Guardian Angel in Jersey Shore, PA.

These classes are designed with pre-kindergarten academic focus and structured play.

If you have any questions regarding enrollment in this program, contact Mrs. Trudy Wagner, Student Data Coordinator, at 570-398-5253, Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM.  Applications will be considered complete when the information is submitted and includes the child’s birth certificate, immunization records and proof of income.

Applications will be reviewed upon receipt.  The program will begin in the fall and continue for 180 days following the JSASD calendar.  A waiting list for the program is kept by the school district.

The Jersey Shore Area School District and the local day care providers look forward to providing this educational opportunity to the families of our community.
