“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist when we grow up” – Pablo Picasso
In elementary art, we strive to give students the tools and skills to use their creativity in new and exciting ways. By following the Pennsylvania state standards for the arts & humanities, students are exposed to the many sides of art such as art history, art production, art criticism and so much more! Students get the chance to discuss the work of famous artists throughout history as well as their own work and the work of their peers. Students learn skills and techniques through painting, drawing, and other media. Through these activities, students exercise their ability to think creatively which is important now more than ever in the visual age that we live in.
While in the art room students will
- Learn important problem solving skills by
- Observing the work of others
- Making revisions & recalculations
- Using innovative thinking
- Self assess
- Reflect upon their own experiences in art production
- Answer the big questions of aesthetics.
Students will learn that there are many ways to interpret the world around them and that in art, there can always be more than one path toward the successful completion of each project.
