Athletes Code of Conduct

  1. I will play because I want to, not because others or coaches want me to.
  2. I will play by the rules and in spirit of the game.
  3. I will play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility, foul language or violence.
  4. I will respect my teammate and my opponents.
  5. I understand the team’s goals, welfare, and success must come before any individual’s goals.
  6. I know an athlete needs to consistently attend practices.  This also includes Saturdays, and holidays.
  7. I accept that as an athlete I must participate in the mandatory pre-season prior to playing (meaning if you come out, you must practice 2 weeks (depending on sport) prior to competing).
  8. I will be respectful of the coach and his staff, as well as, other teammates, officials, opposing coaches, athletes, and fans.
  9. I agree that as a member of a team, an athlete must agree to and follow all team rules.  Athletes must remember that they are ambassadors and represent not only themselves, but also their coaches, school, parents, and communities.  Accept seriously the responsibility and privilege of representing your school and community, display positive public action at all times.
  10. I will report all injuries to the coach or, more importantly, to the athletic trainer.
  11. I will always treat opponents with respect; shake hands prior to and after contests.  They are not my enemies.
  12. I will respect judgment of contest officials, abide by rules of the contest and display no behavior that could incite fans and other players.
  13. I will cooperate with officials, coaches, and fellow participants to conduct a fair contest. Live up to higher standards of sportsmanship established by your coach.
  14. I will not use profanity to any teammates, coaches, teachers, and other school staff at any time.
  15. I know as an athlete I must be present in school of the start of each day, and be in school at the end of the day.  If I arrive to school late, or leave before the end of the day with out providing a Dr.’s excuse I will not be permitted to participate in contests or practice for that day.  No Exceptions.
  16. I understand that I am a Student Athlete and that my academics and attendance in school can and will seriously effect my participation in interscholastic athletics.  I will maintain a high standard of excellence year round with my studies and be in attendance at school not only during the season but out of the season.
  17. I understand that the following are acceptable demonstrations of sportsmanship and will promote these actions at all times: Applause during introductions of players, coaches, and officials, Players shaking hands with opponents who fouled out while both sets of fans recognize a player’s performance with applause, accept all decisions of officials as final, cheerleaders lead fans in positive school cheers in a positive manner, handshakes between contestants and coaches before and after a game, regardless of outcomes,  treat competition as a game not a war, coaches and athletes search out and congratulate opposing team and coaches, applause at the end of contest for all performances by all participants, everyone showing concern if a player is injured, regardless of the team, encourage only sportsmanlike conduct
  18. I understand that the following are forms of unacceptable behavior and poor demonstrations of sportsmanship: yelling or waving arms during opponents free-throw attempt, disrespectful or derogatory remarks, chants, yells, songs, or gestures, booing or heckling the official, criticizing the officials in any way; displays of temper with an officials call, yells that antagonize opponents, refusing to shake hands or give recognition to a good performance, blaming a loss on an official, coach or participant, use of profanity or displays of anger that draw attention away from the game
