Cooperative Education

The basic purpose of the Cooperative Education Program is to provide training through the use of business and industry to help bridge the gap between school and employment.  Cooperative Education is a unique plan of education designed to integrate classroom study with planned, supervised, practical work experience.  Students who meet the requirements of basic trade and technical training, good attendance, a good attitude and work habits, are recommended to the employer for on-the-job training.

The supervised program permits senior students to work during part of the school day in business and industry to enhance their training.  Employers are required to evaluate the progress of a student in the same fashion as evaluations are performed by an instructor in a career and technical education program.  This evaluation is transformed into a cooperative education grade and credit is granted towards graduation.  Many students involved in a cooperative placement maintain employment after graduation.  Jersey Shore Area School District has a certified Cooperative Education Coordinator that oversees student placements in local business and industry settings.  Information concerning cooperative education can be obtained by calling the Jersey Shore Senior High School at 570-398-7170.
