Hello Jersey Shore Community,
The JSASD has once again partnered with The New Love Center of Jersey Shore to provide students with backpacks of food to take home on Fridays. These backpacks will consist of healthy snacks and single serve meal options. TNLC is moving to online registration this year to simplify the process but physical copies are also available at each school. The first backpacks will go home with students on 9/30. Online registration can be completed at www.bulldogbackpacks.com. Please complete registration by 9/22. Please direct any questions to newlovecenter@gmail.com.
I want to thank you for your patience as we navigate the mask mandate and untangle the legal aspect of it. This week, after getting clarity on the guidance on mask breaks from PDE, we made the effort to get elementary students social distant in their classrooms to reduce the amount of time that masks are worn. While social distancing is further apart at secondary, the administrative team and I are working to make sure that every student can receive a 10-minute mask break every period of the day in the middle and high school. This effort is in an attempt to reduce the amount of time that students are wearing masks but comply with the mask mandate.
This week, principals were working with families who submitted parent exemptions and have not yet submitted medical documentation. After this week, we will require anyone without appropriate medical documentation to have a face covering to enter the building.
This week, the district has started to see an increase in staff absences due to quarantines and exposures to Covid both inside and outside of school. The administrative team has done a great job every day to cover for staff that are out so that school can continue. I want to thank parents and students for being understanding as we often have several substitutes in buildings.
I continue to consult with our solicitor and work on supporting the already filed injunction so that we are legally pushing back against the loss of local control.
Thank you,
Dr. Ulmer
