Hello Jersey Shore Community,
With one marking period complete, we are in the middle of many exciting things at Jersey Shore. We have several post-season athletic accomplishments from Golf, Tennis, Soccer, Cross Country, and Football. The district signed a guaranteed admissions agreement with Commonwealth University (Lock Haven, Bloomsburg, and Mansfield) that will benefit graduates for the next 5 years.
The board recently approved an agreement with Americorps to accept Americorps Senior participants. If you are or know someone over the age of 55 who would like to make a difference in the lives of our students, please visit this link to learn more – AmeriCorps Seniors | AmeriCorps.
In my last update, I discussed the decision that was made at the County level to use 3 of our school buildings as polling places beginning in November 2023. I did say that the Board of Directors and I did not make this decision. We are choosing to close the schools to be sure that we maintain student safety while school is in session. PA State Law does allow for elections to be held in public buildings. Personally, I do not support the use of our schools in this manner. As a district, we spend a lot of time, energy, and funding to make schools as safe as possible and yet we will be required to open the doors twice a year and let anyone in. This disruption to our school schedule and processes could be avoided but the district does not have the support of the law to stop this.
Don’t forget that Parent Teacher Conferences are November 21st and 22nd. The district will be closed for students on those two days. Then, the district will remain closed for Thanksgiving Break until Tuesday, November 29th.
Thank you,
Dr. Ulmer
