Community Letter 12.1.22

Hello Jersey Shore Community,

As I write this letter, I am aware that many of you are focusing time and attention on the Holiday season. As a district, there are many events coming for the holiday season.  Please pay attention to our website and Facebook page for winter concerts, athletic events and building programs over the next month.

Next week, a team will be traveling to Hershey to recognize High School English Teacher, Brooke Menzen, who is a finalist for State Teacher of the Year.  Congratulations to Mrs. Menzen!

Attendance Information

As we get further into this school year, we want to remind you how important regular attendance is on your child’s performance. There are several important things to remember:

  1. In addition to a call on the day your child is absent, you will receive communications for 3-days, 6-days unexcused and another communication when your child reaches 10 days of absence. If you are not receiving those communications, please check with your child’s building to be sure that your contact information is correct.
  2. If your child tests positive for COVID, please contact our school nurses to discuss their return date.
  3. Remember that there are specific things in Board Policy #204 that are labeled as excused absence reasons. Principals and secretaries are only permitted to excuse students for those reasons. The policy does indicate that excuses must be provided in writing. We ask that you include the child’s full name, date of the absence and reason to more easily process the request.
  4. If you want to take your child out of school for an educational trip, you can find the form on our website under information -> Parent -> parent forms. This form needs to be submitted to each school a child attends prior to the trip.

The district will have an early dismissal on Thursday, December 22nd.  Then, the district will be closed on December 23rd and remain closed until students return on Tuesday, January 3rd.

Thank you,

Dr. Ulmer
