Hello Jersey Shore Community,
As we enter the fall, please know that we are already making plans for monitoring weather and making weather decisions. I understand that whether the district is closed, open, delayed or dismissed early is going to impact every student and family and make someone upset. If I believe that there will be any dangerous conditions, I consult with our transportation contractors, maintenance staff, regional superintendents, local Emergency Management, and other stakeholders to make an informed decision. Again, this year, JSASD will use Flexible Instruction Days (FIDs) as a tool to make sure that even if school is not possible, students can continue to learn at home. As I communicated to the Board of Directors, though the law has changed and we are not required to be in school 180 school days to meet the school code requirement, we will use FIDs rather than delete a school day as is happening in other school districts around the state. I appreciate that some people see FIDs as lesser education, but they are still more than cancelling the day without a makeup day.
We just completed the first marking period. Please watch for communications from your child’s teacher and school about parent teacher conferences. Those will be held on November 25th and 26th.
Students will not have school on from November 25th through and including December 2nd. We will return from the break on Tuesday, December 3rd.
Thank you,
Dr. Ulmer
